the wonki prints

Curious, colourful and with eyes way too big for his body, this little guy was the start of Wonki Studio. He kept knocking on my shoulder telling me that we should do something together. Be a part of other wonki families and have fun!

It started as a conversation about a clothing line, but the little goldfish kept coming back and made me realise that colourful, playful and modern prints are what Wonki Studio should be all about. After that, all of a sudden and with the help of encouraging words from my wonderful friends, more and more prints entered my wonki world.

Inspiration

I have always found inspiration wherever I go, that is how my brain takes in the world. There are just so many textures, colors, materials, art and objects all around us.

However, there are some things that have always been there and always will.

Stockholm Archipelago

Growing up I spent most summers on a sailing boat and on the islands of the Stockholm Archipelago. As a young child it was great to go swimming, fishing and explore new islands almost every day. As a teenager I was bored to death, but as an adult I keep wanting to go back with my kids.

In the end the ocean, the nature and the light will keep inspiring me and make me calm.

Second hand

The shapes and materials of old glasses, plates, lamps, chairs, dressers, cabinets and other trinkets have all made me bring home super awkward luggage from trips, put lamps together after collecting pieces here and there and finding my way down into dark basements and far away corners of small shops. Used and worn things are just that beautiful.

East Asia

It started with the animated movies of Studio Ghibli when I was young, and now I am still enjoying them with my kids. Later, for my first flat, my first interior design piece was a super kitch Chinese lamp with lots of red tassels and painted glass, just like the one I had seen in Chinese restaurants in Sweden when I was a child. It was wonki, wonderful och didn’t go with anything else.

After a backpacking trip the colors, the people and the atmospheres came alive. Later, the beauty of kimonos, rice paper and Japanese porcelain kept finding their way into my home and they keep coming. With its’ intricate and colourful traditional patterns and imaginative anime mixed with the clean and simple modern designs this part of the world will always have a special place in my designer heart.

So for this first collection it had to be all about the things that keep inspiring me. I really hope you like my prints.

Oh, I almost forgot, I really like animal prints too….
